Peter Smith

Peter is our principle Funeral Director, and has been working in the funeral industry for over 30 years.

Peter was born and grew up in Cote, Oxfordshire. He spent his early years working on a local farm, where he had his first experience of being part of a small, independent, family run business. After spending some years working in the service industry, Peter decided to follow his dream of becoming a Funeral Director.

The quality of Peter’s work and his commitment to providing families with a personal and considerate service has, over more than two decades, led to Peter becoming one of the most respected Funeral Directors in Oxfordshire.

Peter married Angela in 1987, and together they have two boys – Sean and Daniel.

Sean Smith

As Peter’s eldest son, Sean grew up watching his Dad fulfil a passion for working as a Funeral Director. After training as a mechanic and working at another family run firm, Sean decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, and to join him in the local funeral business.

After nearly seven years of working together, Peter and Sean made the decision to create Peter Smith & Son Funeral Directors Ltd, and to build a business that stood for all of the family values that they had learned over the years.

Through his work, Sean met Jessica. They married in 2011 and together they have two Children- Amber is seven, and Charlie, who is five.

Ian Fifield

Ian was born and bred in Witney and comes from another family who have spent their lives and careers working to provide families with the best service they can offer at a difficult time.

On leaving school, Ian studied at university in Aberystwyth before returning home to run a local photography business for the next nine years. Before long, it became time for Ian to join his father, John Fifield in the family business, E.H. Fifield & Son.

E.H. Fifield & Son provide funeral vehicles to local and independent Funeral Directors in the Witney area, but their reputation built as Carriage Masters has taken their fleet of Jaguar hearses and limousines right across the country. E.H.Fifield & Son has been family run for four generations and 110 years.

Whilst remaining part of the family business, Ian made the decision to join Peter and Sean to help build Peter Smith & Son
